What Is OriginTrail (TRAC)?

OriginTrail is an Ethereum-based ecosystem for supply chain use cases, founded in 2011. The idea behind the project is to employ the power of blockchain technology in the sphere of logistics and supply chain management. According to the official OriginTrail white paper, the ecosystem provides enterprise users an option to streamline their supply chain, improve item tracking and introduce better data protection practices.

As one of the first blockchain solutions introduced on a global scale, OriginTrail has been used by companies in numerous fields, including beef, poultry and vegetable distribution. Not only that, OriginTrail has partnered with big names in the industry like Microsoft Navision, Walmart, and Oracle.

Who Are the Founders of OriginTrail?

OriginTrail has three co-founders, who still have the top roles in the company. Tomaž Levak is the managing director. His professional interests before founding OriginTrail were directed towards project management and social activities. Levak has a masters degree in social sciences from the University of Ljubljana. He has an extensive portfolio of project management positions in different international companies and organizations.

Žiga Drev is the other co-founder and managing director of OriginTrail. He also graduated from the University of Ljubljana but specialized in finance and economy. As one of the founding members of OriginTrail, Drev has brought a wide variety of ideas for how the project should develop in terms of finance.

Another essential member of the OriginTrail founders’ team is Branimir Rakić, who also serves as the company’s chief technical officer (CTO). He has a Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Belgrade. Mr. Rakić has a background in network engineering and web development. He was also a lecturer at the SAE Institute.

How Many OriginTrail (TRAC) Coins Are There in Circulation?

The OriginTrail team has defined a maximum supply of 500,000,000 TRAC tokens for the moment. Currently, about 340,031,299 TRAC tokens are actively available on the market. As TRAC is a utility token, its supply is determined by the demand created from the OriginTrail network.

About 50% of all TRAC tokens were dedicated to the ICO and institutional sales. Close to 20% percent of the maximum token supply was reserved for the founders of OriginTrail and other pre-ICO contributors. Another 20% of tokens were put into a fund for further development of the project. Finally, 5% of tokens went towards a dedicated liquidity pool, while another 5% were given to the teams working on the project and to outside advisors.

How Is the OriginTrail Network Secured?

As an ERC-20 token launched on the Ethereum blockchain, TRAC is secured by the proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus. Unlike Bitcoin, which operates with proof-of-work (PoW), TRAC nodes are determined based on staking. In other words, participants who have the most considerable amount of TRAC tokens accumulated are selected as active nodes.

The PoS consensus mechanism is becoming increasingly popular, as it allows for greater scalability and improved usability of the underlying blockchain. Not only that, but mining ERC-20 tokens does not require so much electrical and computing power, which makes it more versatile and easy to adopt.

OriginTrail (TRAC) tokens have attracted significant institutional interest over the years. Many exchanges are offering TRAC trade. Currently, Uniswap (V2) facilitates the most TRAC transactions, with a trading volume of $856,849.
